Thesis Defense Presented Using Macintosh
In November, the first Civil Engineering thesis defense using a Macintosh in the Information Arcade was accepted at the University of Iowa. The thesis, by James D. Hingtgen, involved writing a FORTRAN program to determine the member forces and displacements for a flexibly-connected structural steel frame. It was compiled on the Macintosh using MPW.
The thesis was presented to the evaluation committee as a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation of approximately 60 slides, and received an enthusiastic response.
The presentation used text, tables, diagrams, and graphs created with a variety of programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, MacDraw 2.0, HyperCard, and DeltaGraph Professional.
